The University of Bonn actively supports researchers who can no longer work in their home countries due to persecution and/or violence. As founding member of the Scholars at Risk Germany Section, the University of Bonn explicitly commits itself to the principle of academic freedom.


Philipp Schwartz Initiative of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation?

The?Philipp Schwartz Initiative?provides universities and research institutions in Germany with the means to host threatened foreign researchers for a period of 24 months on a fully funded research fellowship.?If you are interested in being nominated for a Philipp Schwartz Fellowship by the University of Bonn, you can contact the Welcome Center for International Reserchers all year round.There are usually two calls for application per year.?


Scholars at Risk - Germany Section

    The German Section of the global Scholars at Risk Network is composed of German universities, research institutions and science organisations that campaign to support and offer sanctuary to researchers under threat as well as to protect academic freedom. On their website you can find information on the various funding opportunities for threatened researchers.


    Support program by the Scholars At Risk Germany Section - NRW Group

    Some of the?Scholars At Risk Germany Section?member institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) offer a joint support program for threatened researchers. It is primarily aimed at the Philipp Schwartz fellows of the participating institutions, but other interested scholars may also apply for participation. By offering seminars and workshops on various research and career related issues, the program intends to facilitate the start of a new professional life here in Germany.
