DSH and TestDaF Preparatory Course

The German crash courses preparing for the DSH and TestDaF are designed for international applicants who wish to study at the University of Bonn.?

German skills at intermediate level are mandatory for the enrolment and participation in the DSH preparatory courses. The application form must clearly demonstrate the necessary proficiency! You should be able to communicate with us in German.?

We accept the following certificates as proof of your language proficiency:

1. "Zertifikat Deutsch" (Goethe-Zertifikat B1, or Telc Deutsch B1) with an overall result of at least 75 percent each

2. Goethe-Institut or telc GmbH certificates of a level higher than B1

3. a TestDaF certificate showing the minimum level of TDN3 in at least one part of the examination.

Certificates listed under 1) and 2) are offered by the Goethe-Institut, telc GmbH and their licensees.

The submitted certificates must not be older than two years.?

As the number of participants in the preparatory course is limited, we can only consider applications received by the deadline stated. After a thorough evaluation of all applications, spaces are allocated giving priority to applicants from non-EU and non-EEA countries, while also aiming to cover as many nationalities as possible. EU-applicants are noted on a waiting list and will be contacted once spaces become available.

International candidates must apply for admission to their chosen degree program using the "Antrag auf Zulassung/Immatrikulation" (entrance/emrolment application). On this form, candidates must indicate that they wish to attend a preparatory German course by answering "yes" to the respective question on the form. This also applies to applicants for a master's program! Further details about the application process are available here.

Application Deadlines

The Student Application and Registration must receive the entrance/enrollment application no later than January 15th for a summer semester and no later than July 15th for a winter semester.??

(Universit?t Bonn, Studierendensekretariat, 53012 Bonn, Germany)

Course Duration

This is a crash course of approximately 18 weeks? with daily classes. Participants attend twenty? lessons a week offered Monday to Friday. The course takes place between April and August/September during the summer semester and between October and February/March during the winter semester . German bank holidays may result in minor adjustments to the amount of weekly classes.

Course Levels

Only two semesters are allowed for the preparation for the examination. Courses will be held for Basic Level and Advanced Level. Students will be assigned to courses at the beginning of the program following an online assessment. The minimum prerequisite for an application is, as described above, the "Zertifikat Deutsch". Given the timetable and considering the substantial amount of lessons, it is deemed realistic to achieve the required examination level. The University of Bonn reserves the right to make changes to the course structure!

Timetables depend on the overall schedule of German courses at the International Office. Selecting a course based on time of day is not possible!

Final Examination

The course will be completed with the "DSH German Language Proficiency Test for Admission to Higher Education" (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausl?ndischer Studienbewerber). Participants of the Basic Level course?must take the final examination after two semesters, participants of the Advanced Level after one semester. The first? attempt is free of charge. Repetition of the DSH after a failed attempt will incur a charge of the usual examination fee of €110. If you fail the final examination, you may take the German course one more time (course fee applies).?

University applicants who attend the preparatory course remain enrolled until they have passed (max. 2 semesters) or, in case of failure, repeated the language examination (max. 3 semesters).?

Passing the examination does not entitle candidates to register for a degree program.

The course fee is €1.480.?

Once the courses started, the fee is?nonrefundable.? For this reason, meeting given deadlines for arrival to the course is imperative. If an applicant realizes that an arrival within the given deadline will not be possible, for whatever reason, our office should be notified as soon as possible. Only then? a?reimbursement of the course fee minus a processing fee of €50 will be possible.

You can apply for accommodation in student residences?(dormitories) from the?Studierendenwerk Bonn?(Student Services Agency).??

Please note that the International Office does not provide support in finding student accommodation!
